In this three-part series, Gary will teach you how to set up and shoot photos for pageants and portraiture.
The model is Ena Vehabovic, a candidate for the Miss World Canada pageant. The photos will be used for the pageant.
Gary explains how to properly pose models for pageant shoots.
Gary is using a soft light in front of Ena. To achieve the soft light effect, he’s using a Gary Fong Lightbulb Adaptor Kit.
The Adapter Kit contains a Gary Fong Lightsphere Adapter, which secures to a Light Socket Adapter with AC power plug. The kit is compatible with the new Lightsphere® Collapsible™ Speed Mount (Generation 5) and the new SpeedSnoot and fits on any standard mount light stand.
Behind Ena, Gary has placed a Speed Snoot which will provide a lot more separation in the hair light.
The Speed Snoot gives photographers maximum efficiency and directional control over strobe lighting when mounted off-camera, allowing one to create cutting edge, “fashion style” special effects. The black finish of the Speed Snoot blocks the light spilled out of the sides of the diffuser so instead of filing a room with soft light, the photographer can project the light directly onto the subject with a controlled yet soft burst that is great for hair highlighting, selective lighting of subjects, or highlighting a subject against a busy background.
