Achieve Dramatic Studio Lighting in Awful Places

Demonstrated live at Henry’s Exposure 2014 in Toronto, Gary showcases a set of speedlights in a busy area and how to create a dramatic look.

Gear List: Sony a99, 50mm f1.4 Carl Zeiss, Video Devices Pix 240i, Manfrotto 5001B Nano Black Light Stand, Manfrotto 458B Neotec Pro Photo Tripod, Kenro 222 Joystick Head, Phottix Mitros+, Phottix Odin

One of the nice things with speedlights flash is you can control ever aspect of your light. Not only the shape and color but also the mixture between ambient light and speedlight flash.

What’s really nice about this is the equipment is extremely portable and highly effective. The photo above was created with one speedlight in front of the model, to her left. This speedlight has a Speed Snoot and PowerGrid attached to it. The second speedlight is behind the model with a Speed Snoot and Red Gel. This created the red glow behind her.

All this gear folds up really small and fits in your bag.
